  • Othman Kareem

    Othman is a Baghdad-based independent consultant partners extensively with national ministries and global agencies to translate environmental challenges into actionable, conflict-sensitive policy. His recent work includes leading the development of policy recommendations to stop open burning of waste in Iraq for the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES). He also played a key role in Iraq’s COP28 preparations by contributing to the national negotiation handbook. Othman has delivered strategic contributions to major national frameworks, including the development of Iraq’s first Climate Investment Plan (CIP) with UNDP and the Government of Iraq, and the integration of climate-induced human mobility into the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). As a National Consultant and Project Manager, he has additionally led large-scale household surveys, stakeholder consultations, and sector assessments for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and academic partners including the University of Birmingham. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Technology, a professional diploma in public policy from the American University of Sharjah, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in International Relations at Liverpool John Moores University.
